There are many people from Odia ethnicity living in North America in addition to several expatriates from Odisha, India. Odia Shikshalaya is an attempt to teach how to speak, read and write in Odia language to their children. The Odia Shikshalaya started in January 2021 a free online school and it became a center of excellence through its technology based interactive pedagogy and program delivery. In addition to learning Odia language the students are also given exposure to the Odia culture and traditions and their overall personality development.
